MAGURA Gustav PRO disc brake
The rebirth of the Magura Gustav brings back memories of the „good old days“. Known as the „Swabian Anchor“, its performance was legendary, its braking power unrivaled, and the current Magura Gustav PRO continues on this path. It will also set standards in terms of deceleration, modulation and reliability. It will bring even heavy E-MTBs to a safe stop at all times.
Master unit with Carbotecture brake lever and Easy-Link cable connection
Even the master unit is a sign of power. It has a massive design and blends in perfectly with the look of modern downhill e-bikes. The ergonomic lever made of lightweight Carbotecture material sits comfortably under the fingers and moves a 12 mm diameter piston. It provides a direct braking feel and leaves nothing to be desired in terms of modulation. It also has a predetermined breaking point to minimize damage in the event of a fall. Thanks to the bolted bearing point, a new lever can be installed quickly. Of course, the individual grip width adjustment can be carried out without tools using a small rotary wheel.
Installation is also extremely simple. The hinged clamp can be attached without removing the grips and allows SRAM and Shimano shifters to be fitted using the Shiftmix adapters supplied.
Another innovative solution is the EASY-LINK connection. It allows the brake hose to be quickly detached without the need for special tools. Simply remove the cover cap, pull out the safety pin and the cable can be removed. A clever idea, especially for today’s frames with internally routed cables.
4-piston brake calliper
The solid brake calliper, forged from high-quality aluminum, transfers the concentrated braking force to the disc. Four pistons with a diameter of 19 mm do the work, while the one-piece design increases rigidity and ensures a very sensitive response.
The Magura Gustav PRO forms the ideal pair with the optionally available Magura MDR-S 2.5 brake rotors. Their 2.5 mm thick friction ring guarantees lasting stability even on long downhill rides. In addition, a diameter of 203 mm is completely sufficient for this thickness. Of course, conventional brake disks can also be used without any problems.
The 13.S Brake Pads were installed for the best deceleration. They have approx. 40 % more material compared to the MT7 and ensure quiet and powerful braking as well as extremely low wear. What’s more, the special compound means there is no need to brake for a long time.
Because you naturally want to ride rather than screw, the individual components of the Magura Gustav PRO are specially designed for durability. Not only do the robust Brake Pads and rotors extend the maintenance intervals, but the 7 ml reservoir also ensures that there is little air in the system. If bleeding is nevertheless necessary, this is made much easier by an improved valve. Furthermore, there are no hidden corners or dead ends in the oil channel, so that every air bubble is pressed out.
The high manufacturing quality is also typical of Magura, so that you can wind down thousands of kilometers without having to worry about your safety.
